Mānawatia a Matariki-Celebrating Matariki at KEL

What a beautiful morning we had celebrating Matariki at our KEL parakuihi (breakfast). A huge thank you to all the whānau who came along, it was such a wonderful turnout and a really special way to start the day together.

The room was full of warm kōrero, shared kai, and the uplifting sense of connection that Matariki brings. There was such a lovely feeling in the air, with everyone coming together in the spirit of celebration and reflection.

This year, the 2025 theme for Matariki mā Puanga is all about inclusion, embracing diversity, and celebrating Matariki as a collective. We really saw that come to life at our parakuihi, with each whānau bringing their own stories, cultures and aroha into the space. It’s something we feel so lucky to be a part of.

Matariki is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and look ahead to the future. For our tamariki, being part of moments like these helps grow their sense of belonging and pride in who they are. They get to see that their identity matters, that their whānau are welcomed into the centre, and that learning is something we do together.

Ngā mihi nui again to everyone who joined us. Thank you for helping us honour Matariki in such a meaningful way. We’re already looking forward to the next time we can come together as a community.
